Epigrams

Marcus Valerius Martialis lived between 38 and 104 A.D. A Spaniard by birth, his literary peak came during the Flavian dynasty. Martial’s 12 books of biting satire treat a wide range of social foibles and peccadilloes: arrogant upstarts, romantic failures, clumsy provincials, and virtually everything else one can find in Rome.
